Distribution and Habitat:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local distribution: It is found in lowland and tropical rainforest areas of Pet\u00e9n (such as the vicinity of Yaxh\u00e1) and neighboring regions in southern Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plant type: It is a climbing shrub or woody vine of the Malpighiaceae family that prefers tropical climates with a dry season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alkaloids in the stem: The stems and wood of the vine contain betarbolines (such as harmine).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
