The book is titled \u00abShamans, Ayahuasca, and Healing\u00bb and is 328 pages long. It was written by Santiago L\u00f3pez Pavillard, who holds a Ph.D. in anthropology from the Complutense University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Far from limiting itself to a historical or anthropological description of the phenomenon, the book devotes a specific section to \u00abAyahuasca Ceremonies,\u00bb with subsections such as \u00abParticipating in an Ayahuasca Ceremony,\u00bb \u00abPreparing for the First Intake,\u00bb \u00abThe Shaman\u2019s Explanations About the Ceremony,\u00bb and \u00abThe Work,\u00bb which explains how these sessions unfold and what preparation is required of those who attend them, as well as a section titled \u00abTherapeutic Results,\u00bb which discusses the psychological and spiritual benefits, describing experiences of emotional liberation and mystical connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The work also normalizes the induced vomiting that occurs during the sessions by describing it as a phase of purification. In one passage, it states that \u00abthe purgative path precedes [\u2026] the illuminative path.\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The author of the book is anthropologist Santiago L\u00f3pez-Pavillard, a researcher specializing in Amazonian shamanism and states of consciousness. According to CSIC Publishing itself, the book aims to offer a \u00abreconceptualization of the figure of the shaman\u00bb based on the ceremonial use of ayahuasca and tobacco, as well as to open a debate on \u00abthe nature and scope of scientific knowledge.\u00bb The publication, however, includes a disclaimer in which Editorial CSIC states that \u00abthe information, assertions, and opinions contained in this work are the sole responsibility of the author or authors,\u00bb while the publisher asserts that it is responsible only for the scientific merit of the publication. Even so, the book is part of Editorial CSIC\u2019s official catalog and has been published as part of one of its academic series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
